Manchester United’s summer transfer activity has been impossible to ignore, with Ruben Amorim and his team busy reshaping the squad ahead of a demanding Premier League campaign.

Pre-season form has given fans plenty of optimism, but questions remain about how the midfield will function with new attacking recruits already in place.

The opening fixtures are looming, and supporters are eager to see how the club’s summer signings fit into Amorim’s system.

Across Europe, elite clubs are moving quickly, and Manchester United are determined not to be left behind as rivals continue to strengthen their squads.

Attention has now turned to a potential blockbuster deal that could redefine United’s midfield for years to come.

According to Graeme Bailey via United in Focus, Manchester United are reportedly preparing a club record bid in excess of £100 million for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, demonstrating just how serious they are about landing the Cameroonian.

With Brighton viewing Carlos Baleba as a key asset, manager Fabian Hurzeler has previously expressed confidence that the 21-year-old will remain at the Amex Stadium.

However, United appear ready to test that resolve, hoping a substantial offer will force discussions to the negotiating table.

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey confirms that United’s approach is far from a “fishing expedition,” with the club fully intending to make a move for Baleba rather than simply gauge interest.

Sources reveal that United have informed both Brighton and Baleba’s camp that they are prepared to break their previous transfer record, surpassing the £89 million spent on Paul Pogba in 2016.

While Brighton owner Tony Bloom is believed to seek a fee closer to the £115 million paid for Moises Caicedo, an offer of £100 million is expected to trigger meaningful talks.

Baleba himself has not pushed for a move, but his representatives have spoken to Brighton’s top executives to indicate they would welcome a chance to engage with United should a formal bid be made.

Bailey adds: “Baleba and his camp have had contact with United, Brighton are aware and United have not been shy in explaining to him why he would be such a good fit for them.

“While he is not pushing for a move, it is not impossible to think that he has had his head turned.

“Brighton are standing firm, but this is not over yet.”

United have already invested heavily this summer, signing Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, but the addition of Baleba would address a key need: a defensive-minded midfielder to partner Bruno Fernandes as the captain drops deeper.

With the club ready to make a statement, the race for Baleba is entering a decisive phase.
