Manchester United are in the market for an attacker who can bolster their starting lineup and address their struggles in front of goal.

The Red Devils have faced a difficult season offensively.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have so far managed just five goals in the Premier League combined.

Hojlund, a raw talent with potential, requires time to develop, while Zirkzee has struggled to adapt to the demands of the league.

Alejandro Garnacho and Antony have also struggled to look like a suitable fit in Ruben Amorim’s attacking setup.

The club is keen to resolve this issue promptly, ideally through a signing in the current January transfer window.

However, one transfer target in particular is set to be approached by Premier League rivals, Liverpool.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was revealed as a potential January target for United and Liverpool.

Arne Slot played a clever trick when asked about the winger in his press conference yesterday.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein confirmed of Liverpool’s interest being more concrete, however.

That could now take a step closer, with Napoli manager Antonio Conte confirming earlier today that the 23-year-old has asked to leave.

“We are talking about an important player,” Conte told reporters.

“Last summer I spoke to the president and I wanted to have some technical certainties by demanding the confirmation of some important players.

“Even though he and others had asked to be sold, I worked on it and managed to keep who I wanted.

“[Kvaratskhelia] asked the club to be sold. I am disappointed, I realised that it was a bolt from the blue and I am taking a step back.

“I would never want him to think that I have chained him here if he were to stay.

“I did it last summer thinking of convincing him of the goodness of the project but evidently I did not succeed.

“We are losing an important player.”

Whether Liverpool go on to actually break the bank for the winger, remains to be seen however.

It would be a transfer move quite reminiscent of when Luis Diaz joined in January 2022.

United fans may not see Kvaratskhelia as a realistic transfer target.

However, these are the caliber of players that Amorim will be looking to bring in, should the club look to really improve its technical flooring.
