Leny Yoro has decided to join Manchester United over Real Madrid.
The 18-year-old defender is set to fly to England for a medical at Old Trafford.
With only one year left on his contract, Lille are keen to finalise a deal with United, as Yoro would be able to negotiate a free transfer from January.
Although he initially preferred Madrid, the Spanish champions were unwilling to meet Lille’s demands.
United seized the opportunity by offering Lille the desired fee and convincing Yoro of their project at Old Trafford.
The young centre-back was reportedly “impressed” by the club’s efforts. Consequently, Yoro has signaled his intention to accept United’s proposal, much to Lille’s satisfaction.
Santi Auona of Foot Mercato reports that Yoro will receive a yearly salary of €9 million (£7.55 million) with bonuses, equating to around £145,000 per week.
The specifics of these bonuses remain unclear.
This figure is supported by Florian Plettenberg of Germany Sky Sports, who notes that Yoro will earn “€7m gross + €2m possible bonus payments” annually.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Yoro will sign a five-year contract with an option for an additional year.
This structure helps United maintain player value as contract expiration approaches.
Interestingly, Romano adds that Yoro’s salary will “increase every year,” suggesting this incremental promise played a key role in his decision to choose United over Madrid.
Considered a ‘generational talent,’ Yoro’s acquisition by United, especially ahead of Madrid, marks a significant achievement for INEOS in their first transfer window at Old Trafford, signaling their commitment to securing top-tier talent.
