Manchester United are still trying to sort out their wide options under Ruben Amorim, with his tactics reliant on dynamic wing-backs.

The current United squad was assembled under Erik ten Hag for a 4-2-3-1, with the club spending £600 million on transfers.

As such, Amorim has now been tasked with harnessing the current potential in the squad rather than relying on big-money moves.

Thankfully most of the squad are fitting directly into the new formation, with the similarities being two defensive midfielders, a solo striker and an attacking midfielder.

However, the real difference comes in the wings. Previously, United have played with full-backs and wingers. However, Amorim prefers for these roles to be brought into one as dynamic wing-backs.

This means that the wider players like Alejandro Garnacho, Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw will need to either step up into the role or convert to more central roles, which the three appear to be doing.

Shaw made his return to the pitch recently, coming off the bench to feature as the left side of the back three. Mazraoui has equally slotted in as the right-sided centre-back for the trio of defenders, whilst Garnacho has come more central as an attacking midfielder on the shoulder of the solo striker.

However, Amad Diallo has taken the new wing-back role in his stride, providing three assists under Amorim so far in his new position.

With Diallo seemingly claiming the right-wing-back role as his own, the focus now shifts to the left-hand side.

Whilst Shaw is seemingly stepping away from the wider role and Tyrell Malacia is yet to return, Diogo Dalot is currently holding the fort until a natural left-wing-back arrives at Old Trafford.

New reports from Italy have now claimed that United are monitoring a new potential for the role.

Manchester United look to Patrick Dorgu

Francesco Guerrieri, a reporter for Calcio Mercato has now revealed that United sent a scout to Lecce’s recent match with Juventus to watch Patrick Dorgu.

Whilst Dorgu is formally listed as a right winger on Trasnfermarkt, and utilised as such for Lecce this season, he’s had more success in another role.

The Denmark international has made 67 career appearances as a left-back, grabbing six goals and an assist, being used in  every position possible across both wings, showing his versatility.

The United scout saw the 1-1 draw in Serie A, showing an advancement of their interest in the star which has remained quiet until now.

The adaptable winger now joins targets like Alphonso Davies and Milos Kerkez on United’s shortlist.
