Manchester United’s struggles at left-back have been a recurring issue for Ruben Amorim this season.

Injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have left United short of options, forcing Diogo Dalot to deputise on the left despite being more comfortable at right-back.

Amorim has long identified the need for reinforcements in that position.

United have been linked to several high-profile left-backs in recent months.

Names like Theo Hernandez, Alphonso Davies, and Alvaro Fernandez have been discussed as potential solutions.

However, a major boost has now arrived in United’s pursuit of a left wing-back.

Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has emerged as a standout candidate after an impressive performance against United in their 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

At just 21, Kerkez fits the mold of young, dynamic talent that INEOS is targeting as part of the club’s long-term rebuild.

It was only before the start of 2025 when Fabrizio Romano announced Kerkez had changed his agent in order to form a huge transfer.

The Daily Mail reports that Bournemouth are close to completing a £12 million deal for Julio Soler.

Soler’s move is expected to be finalised this week, with the young defender attracting interest for his raw talent and potential in the left-back role.

His arrival at Bournemouth could open the door for Kerkez to leave, as Manchester United and Liverpool continue to monitor the Hungarian’s situation.

Amorim is eager to resolve United’s issues at left wing-back, with that position being a key part of the 3-4-3 system.

As evident, the system relies heavily on wing-backs who possess the physical and technical attributes to hold the width at a high level.

Dalot has stepped in on the left and performed admirably, but his natural position remains on the right.

Kerkez has emerged as a key target for Amorim, impressing with his performances this season and fitting the club’s long-term vision.

A signing that is very much expected to be wrapped up in the near future.
