Manchester United officially confirm new signing

It’s official, United have now added another impressive young talent to their ranks.

After the signing of Silva Mexes to the academy, the Red Devils have now confirmed their second signing of the summer.

Last month it was reported that James Overy had been offered a scholarship deal to join Mexes at Old Trafford’s academy.

United’s academy is without a doubt regarded as on of the best, with youth scouts from the club finding talents who can rise to the ranks of the senior squad, like recent star Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

It’s now being reported by Manchester Evening News that James Overy has officially accepted the offer from United and has signed to the youth academy, set to move from Devon to Manchester ready for next season.

It’s understood that Overy will be joining the under-18s squad next season with the intension of joining the senior squad making a debut at Old Trafford in the coming years.

The 16-year-old first made himself known to the Premier League last summer playing for Perth Glory against West Ham United in a pre-season friendly. Coming on at half-time, Overy performed impressively well against the Premier League squad, making top team sit up and take note.

The right-back has been playing for Newton Abbott Spurs recently since his parents moved to England from Australia and has had a lot of interest from English teams such as Everton, Leicester and West Ham United.

The pacey 16-year-old possesses an impressive attacking mindset and quality, with a comfortable ability with his weaker left foot, bringing some excitement to the defensive options being developed within the United academy.

Overy’s scholarship represents a massive step towards being offered a professional contract when he turns 17.
