Interest in chief scouts eyeing up David was reported on CentreDevils early in December.
David, the Canadian international, is set to become a free agent in the summer, prompting Lille to consider cashing in now.
The 23-year-old has already scored 11 league goals in just 16 appearances this season, surpassing the combined total of United’s current strikers.
David’s impressive consistency is evident in his previous Ligue 1 campaigns, where he netted 19 goals last season and 24 the year before.
