Manchester United’s men’s team are into pre-season under Ruben Amorim, with several youngsters set to being given the chance to impress alongside senior stars.

The club’s focus on youth development remains strong, with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo now fully established in the first-team picture.

INEOS continue to push a long-term strategy built on producing elite-level talent, rather than just buying it.

That philosophy is now clearly mirrored across both the men’s and women’s sides of the club.

It was reported earlier today that Godwill Kukonki has signed a new contract with Manchester United.

And that’s not the only piece of contract news coming out from Old Trafford today.

Manchester United have officially announced that exciting teenage midfielder Mared Griffiths has signed her first professional contract with the Manchester United Women’s team.

The contract ties her to the club until 2027, with the option of a further year.

Mared Griffiths, who only joined the Reds last summer from the FAW North Academy, initially played for the Under-21s before catching the eye of first-team boss Marc Skinner.

She made an unforgettable senior debut during the Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth-round win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring twice after coming on as a substitute in a dominant 6-0 victory.

The 18-year-old has also made appearances for Wales at both youth and senior level, featuring against Italy in a Nations League clash earlier this year.

Having spent the closing weeks of the 2024/25 campaign on the bench as an unused substitute, Griffiths will now aim to push on and earn a regular place in Skinner’s side.

Reacting to her new deal, Griffiths said: “Yeah, I’m well impressed with myself and the family and so grateful for this opportunity from the club.

“I think once I left the FAW Academy in North Wales, moving up to Manchester and playing with the Under-21s there’s always an aim [to play in the senior team].

“You can’t just settle down with just playing for the 21s. I think every player has to set high standards for themselves and you have to back yourself to be able to do it one day.”

“Being able to target something like this and achieve it first year in, I think it’s a good deal at the end of the day.”

Last month, Manchester United also extended Keira Barry’s contract by a further year.

United fans will hope this is just the beginning for another breakout star in red as the team pursue their first ever Women’s Super League title.
