Manchester United are still desperate to sign a midfielder this summer, and recent reports suggest a turning point with their top target.
The journey that United have been on this summer for a midfielder has been full of disappointment.
Their priority target, Manuel Ugarte has stalled for weeks on end and secondary target Youssouf Fofana has picked AC Milan over the Red Devils.
Elsewhere other targets have included Morten Hjulmand and Frankie de Jong who have both dedicated their futures to their current clubs.
However, United may now have a breakthrough, with developments in a deal for Ugarte.
United make headway with Manuel Ugarte deal
Only a matter of weeks ago, it was reported that United had abandoned the deal for Ugarte.
The Red Devils have prioritised a move for Ugarte throughout the summer, agreeing personal terms with the player, but PSG’s resilience in their asking price has seen the move stall and supposedly break down.
However, Erik ten Hag’s side have kept in contact with the French champions, trying to come to an agreement.
According to Manchester World, the Red Devils have now made advances in their attempts to sign the 23-year-old.
The report explains that United feel a completion of a deal for Ugarte can be sorted before the transfer deadline.
United have prioritised a move for Ugarte throughout the summer, agreeing personal terms with the player, but PSG’s resilience in their asking price has seen the move stall.
The 23-year-old was left tout of PSG’s season opener against Le Harve and is expected to leave the French champions, being replaced by Joao Neves.
Despite a 1-0 win over Fulham in their opening Premier League fixture, United are keen to find a partner for Kobbie Mainoo to strengthen their midfield for the rest of their campaign.
