Manchester United are desperately searching for a goalkeeper to join the club over the summer and replace Andre Onana due to his incredibly problematic season.

An even further need for a keeper in the coming months is that both back ups for Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton are set to leave the club at the end of the season.

Heaton is hanging up his boots after a 21 year career, with Bayindir wanting a move to gain more first team football.

As such, The Red Devils are scouring Europe to find a quality signing this summer and have now made contact with a top Spanish shot-stopper.

Spanish publication Cope has reported that United have made an approach for Joan Garcia, Espanyol’s young keeper.

The 23-year-old is the club’s number one goalie, keeping seven clean sheets for the mid-table side.

Throughout the season, Garcia’s kept clean sheets against both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, showing he can perform at the top level.

Last summer Arsenal attempted to bring the keeper to the Premier League and have continued their interest in the Spaniard, once more looking to him in the coming window.

United are reportedly the latest side to contact Garcia’s representatives to make an offer for the star.

It’s understood that Garcia has a £21 million release clause, set to rise to £25 million in the final two weeks of the transfer window.

Also if the goalkeeper makes an appearance for the Spanish national side, it’ll increase by a further £4 million.

Whilst there is a significant amount of interest in Garcia, Espanyol’s sporting director Fran Garagarza commented: “There’s a lot of noise, but nothing is happening. There’s no firm movement like there was in the previous [summer] window.”

He continued: “There may be movements because he’s a top-level goalkeeper, but we’re calm, and most importantly, the kid is very calm.”

With the window set to open in June and signing a keeper being a real priority for United, it’ll be interesting to see if Garcia steps out at Old Trafford next season.
