There’s been a lot of news around defenders in the past few days.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka looks set to leave the club. West Ham United have agreed terms with the former Crystal Palace defender and just need an agreement with Manchester United to close the deal.
Bayern Munich defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are wanted at Old Trafford. Despite Bayern rejecting the initial bid, they also look set to come in sooner rather than later.
But it’s no wonder why defensive reinforcements are being looked at.
The backline of Manchester United has been neglected for too long.
It seems that for every three attackers the club bring in, only one defender comes in.
The priority of the club hasn’t been what is should be.
Lisandro Martinez has been a standout success.
Jonny Evans has done well since he’s been brought back to the club, but nobody would suggest that Evans would be a starter for any other top four club.
With Willy Kambwala having left the club to join Villarreal in the summer, United fans are wondering who is the next young centre-back prospect at the club not named Leny Yoro.
It seems that the club are making moves to do something about that.
Many folks in England would not have heard of Joan Martinez.
But he’s a name that they should take note of.
At 16 years old, Martinez was taken on Real Madrid’s tour of the United States this pre-season.
He came on against AC Milan and stopped a certain goal.
It’s rare that Madrid push young talent that soon, but Martinez is meant to be special and highly-rated.
He’s already been compared to Spain and Madrid legend Sergio Ramos.
Joan Martinez wanted by English giants
AS report that English Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea have made moves to sign Joan Martinez.
The sports newspaper claims that other English Premier League and European sides have also marked his name at the top of their lists. But it’s United and Chelsea who are named specifically as having made an effort to bring the defender to their clubs.
However, Los Blancos are not overly concerned at this stage.
They believe that Martinez wants to stay at the Bernabeu and emulate his idol, Ramos.
Madrid beat the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla to sign the youngster just last year and believe he’s one for the future.
So it seems that United may not get their wish.
Despite their efforts, Martinez seems set to stay at Real for a little while longer yet.
