Manchester United have been linked with a host of players in this transfer window.

With Manuel Ugarte set to join the club in the coming days, many are wondering if that will be the end of their transfer activity this summer.

Victor Lindelof’s future is back under the spotlight and this may require bringing in more defensive reinforcements.

One of the defenders linked with United is now set to move to another club instead.

Earlier in the window, a shock name was linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Marcos Alonso had been linked with a move back to England and specifically to United in Manchester.

The former Barcelona and Chelsea left-back was available on a free transfer.

With the injuries sustained by Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Alonso was one of the names supposedly on the United hierarchy’s shortlist.

Fabrizio Romano even reported that Alonso would love to join the Red Devils.

However, the same man is now reporting that Alonso’s final destination is now set to be elsewhere.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Marcos Alonso is set to stay in Spain after all.

Romano has given his ‘here we go’ to Alonso joining La Liga side Celta Vigo.

Contracts have been approved and it’s now just up to Celta having space in their squad, due to FFP rules, to sign and register the player.

Romano has stated that Manchester United were never an option, despite those links earlier this month.

So it seems that the Spanish international will be continuing his football journey in Spain rather than England.

MUFC fans will be hoping that this means opportunities will be given to young Harry Amass this season, who has a big future in the game.
