Manchester United are rapidly approaching the start of the 2025-26 Premier League season, a season in which Ruben Amorim will be hoping to improve on the 15th place finish achieved last campaign.
As this is Amorim’s first full campaign as the Red Devils boss, there will arguably be a pressure to replicate the success that legends such as Sir Alex Ferguson brought to Old Trafford.
To bring success back to Manchester United next season, a period of summer transfer business has been taking place with the aim of improving United’s squad.
This has seen Matheus Cunha join from Wolves on a long-term deal and has also seen young talents Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik arrive.

However, more business is needed if the Red Devils are to succeed in their battle for the Premier League’s coveted European spots during the upcoming season.
This is why news, according to A Bola, that Manchester United have enquired about a potential move for Sporting CP defender Gonçalo Inácio may not come as a surprise to fans.
According to this report, Sporting CP are wanting €50 million for the star. But, the defender does have a €60 million release clause which could be activated at any time.
Since joining the Portuguese champions in 2020, Inacio has been able to win a trio of Liga Portugals, two Taça da Ligas, one Taça de Portugal and one Super Cup.
Furthermore, the 23-year-old has embraced success on the international stage with the Portuguese national team.
In his time with the national team, he has been able to win one Nations League title.

But, if the defender was to join United, he would be playing in England on a permanent basis for the first time.
However, even with this, the defender’s immense skills – especially in set piece situations – would make him a valuable addition to Ruben Amorim’s side and could help them to settle in at Old Trafford.
Furthermore, these skills could help him become a big part of the United squad.
Inacio and Amorim even worked together at Sporting CP and even won two Liga Portugal titles together. This may help both parties – the player and United – in getting the best out of the 23-year-old if he were to make the move.

But, even with Manchester United’s interest, Sporting want the central defender to remain a part of their defence and want him to continue leading their defensive line according to the same report by A Bola.
This, alongside the fact that United are currently facing financial difficulty, could make the deal unlikely to happen.
However, only time will tell in the battle for this defender.
