Joshua Zirkzee’s Manchester United career could be cut short with the Dutch forward expected to leave in January.

Zirkzee joined United from Bologna for £36.5 million last summer but has struggled to make an impact.

He scored the winning goal on his debut against Fulham but has failed to impress since.

The situation worsened during United’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, when Ruben Amorim substituted him after just 33 minutes.

United fans jeered Zirkzee off the pitch, leaving him reportedly in tears.

Gary Neville described the reaction on Sky Sports as “brutal,” adding, “I actually feel sorry for him. There is a human being in there.”

Interest in Zirkzee remains high, with Juventus and Napoli monitoring his situation.

Juventus are especially keen, but financial constraints may limit them to a loan deal.

Now, discussions have reportedly opened over a swap deal involving Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Journalist Enrico Camelio revealed on Radio Radio Lo Sport that United and Juventus are “working on it.”

Camelio said, “There is an idea of an exchange between Vlahovic and Zirkzee… The idea is plausible.”

Vlahovic has scored seven goals in Serie A this season and boasts 53 goals in 123 Juventus appearances.

United have admired Vlahovic for some time, and swapping Zirkzee for the Serbian would solve key problems.

The move would offload an underperforming player and strengthen United’s attack with a proven goalscorer.

It could also deal a blow to Chelsea and Arsenal, who are both interested in Vlahovic.

What Vlahovic’s arrival would mean for Rasmus Hojlund’s future remains to be seen.

Both strikers are very much similar in terms of build and profile.

It all comes down to what Amorim and the directors deem to be the best fit.

Smart recruitment is essential and it’s time United show improvements in that regard.
