Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are still in negotiations around a transfer fee for Manuel Ugarte.
The Uruguayan has become United’s top target to start strengthening the midfield this summer.
Although other names like Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace and Youssof Fofana of AS Monaco are being considered, Ugarte is the only one the United have agreed personal terms with.
The final piece of the puzzle is for the clubs to agree the fee to see Ugarte on his way to Old Trafford.
United hopeful of Ugarte price drop
PSG are currently holding firm on a £59 million price tag for their midfielder. However, GiveMeSport have reported that United are extremely hopeful of this figure falling as the transfer window goes on.
Dan Ashworth’s patience in the deal comes from his belief that the figure will drop the closer we come to deadline day.
It’s believed that with the talent at PSG, and the players they’re targeting such as Joao Neves of Benfica, Ugarte isn’t high up on the list for game time.
It’s thought that the Uruguayan is very much a back up in manager Luis Enrique’s plans for the French champions. If this is the case, the Ligue 1 side may prefer to cash in on a lower fee rather than pay his wages for limited game time.
The report further expresses that United would consider an initial loan deal for the midfielder to buy at a later date.
The Red Devils are keen to sign the defensive midfielder to work as a partner with rising star Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the pitch.
As a result, we don’t expect to see a finalised deal any time soon unless PSG decide to lower their asking price.
