Manchester United’s need for a midfield revamp has been clear for quite some time, despite the huge sums spent under former manager Erik ten Hag.
The club spent multiple summers chasing Frenkie de Jong but ultimately failed to bring him in.
Instead, they turned to alternative signings, with Casemiro arriving from Real Madrid for £60 million in the summer of 2022.
At the time, the Brazilian was seen as a transformative presence in midfield.
However his influence has waned significantly over the past year.
Now at 32 years old, Casemiro has struggled to fit into Ruben Amorim’s system.

His role in the squad has been drastically reduced.
He has barely featured for United in recent weeks.
Casemiro was even overlooked in favour of 21-year-old Toby Collyer for both of the club’s Europa League wins against Rangers and FCSB.
Christian Eriksen and even Bruno Fernandes have also been used in deeper midfield roles ahead of him.
Casemiro’s first appearance in exactly a month only came on Thursday night, when Amorim introduced him in the second half after United had already gone 2-0 up against FCSB.
United are now actively looking to offload the midfielder before the transfer window closes.
That is according to a report from Samuel Luckhurst in MEN, which states that the Red Devils have contacted multiple agents to try and find a buyer.
Casemiro still has 18 months left on his contract, but he is currently not a part of Amorim’s plans.
United would need an unlikely £22.5 million fee to avoid making a financial loss.
With the deadline fast approaching, an exit remains uncertain.
It has been a sad journey for the Brazilian at United.
Despite winning the FA and Carabao Cup under Erik ten Hag, Casemiro has simply failed to have the impact many hoped he would have made.
