Manchester United are looking at bolstering their squad however they can this summer, with their recruitment team now free to progress with other avenues after signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

After over a month of pushing for the talented attacker, a deal with £71 million has finally been agreed, with Mbeumo having been unveiled as a Red Devil earlier today.

As such, the club are now looking at other problem areas on the pitch that need fixing, with additions needed in the striker, goalkeeper and midfield roles.

In goal, a new addition was always on the cards after two problematic seasons from Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir wanting to depart to get more first-team football.

However, Onana’s hamstring injury in the first week back of pre-season training has complicated matters further even though he may in fact now be back for the start of the Premier League season.

That said, United are continuing to consider a reinforcement in this area, with Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez sitting at the top of The Red Devils’ shortlist.

The Daily Mail has now reported that United are looking at making a loan move for Martinez, to bring him to Old Trafford for the season.

However, there are some conflicts in the report, with it commenting that United held discussions for the 32-year-old over the weekend, then going on to say that “Villa have stressed they have not received any contact”.

As such it’s not clear whether they were internal discussions held at Old Trafford regarding the loan move, or if discussions between clubs have been held however are being kept behind closed doors for now.
