Despite recent reports that Benjamin Sesko is set to join Newcastle United over Manchester United, The Red Devils may still have a chance to sign the talented striker.

Last season, Sesko led the RB Leipzig front-line, grabbing 21 goals and six assists in 45 games, helping the Bundesliga side achieve a seventh-place finish in the league.

Unfortunately, this means that RB Leipzig are missing out on European football this coming season, with FSV Mainz beating them to the sixth-place UEFA Conference League Qualifications spot by a single point.

As such, Sesko is set to miss out on European football should he remain at Leipzig, which could well be a factor as to why he’s unfazed by Manchester United’s lack of European football next season.

However, The Red Devils and up against Newcastle in trying to sign the 22-year-old, with both Premier League sides looking to sign a striker this summer.

With Alexander Isak looking to leave St James Park this summer, and United having lost confidence in Rasmus Hojlund as a first-choice striker, Sesko is at the top of both clubs’ shortlists.

Now, Laurie Whitwell has reported that United are still in conversation with Benjamin Sesko and his representatives as they continue to discuss wages and fees.

This seemingly dispels the claims from Slovenia that Sesko had decided to move to St James Park as Isak’s replacement.

However, United are now on the back foot, as Newcastle have launched a £70 million bid to Leipzig for their striker, hoping to force the transfer to move forward.

Already Leipzig are preparing for life without Sesko as the striker was left out of their 2-1 loss to Atalanta today.

Manchester United are hoping that Benjamin Sesko can be the final piece for their attacking puzzle, completely transforming their attack with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo already joining the club this summer.
