Manchester United’s summer rebuild is gathering momentum, with Ruben Amorim actively involved in reshaping the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The Red Devils are expected to make major changes across the pitch, with early targets already identified to address shortcomings from the previous campaign.

While attacking names like Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap have dominated headlines, United’s focus is also shifting towards strengthening the spine of the team.

Amorim’s setup demands athleticism and tactical discipline in central areas — and that’s led to fresh urgency in the club’s latest midfield pursuit.

According to Tuttosport, Manchester United have accelerated talks with Atalanta over a deal for Brazilian midfielder Ederson, with contacts between the clubs increasing significantly in recent hours.

The 25-year-old has attracted interest from multiple European giants, including Juventus, who see him as a potential replacement for Douglas Luiz.

United are aiming to strike early, and reports suggest the club are prepared to pay between £46 million and £51 million to get the deal done before the competition intensifies.

However, Atalanta has slapped a £64 million price tag on Ederson.

Signing Ederson would be seen as a major statement under Amorim, but it could come at a cost — both financially and in terms of squad casualties.

Casemiro is one of the names expected to be moved on to make room, with Saudi Pro League clubs still monitoring his situation closely after interest last summer failed to result in formal offers.

There’s also uncertainty surrounding Kobbie Mainoo, with suggestions that Amorim may be willing to sacrifice the young star if the system doesn’t accommodate his strengths.

Given Mainoo’s homegrown status, any sale would represent pure profit under Profit and Sustainability Rules — something that could appeal to United’s new-look boardroom.

Chelsea have previously shown interest in both Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, and their name may resurface again if the Ederson move progresses.

For now, United’s transfer strategy is clear: act fast, secure quality, and reshape the core of the team to match Amorim’s high-intensity blueprint — and Ederson could be the next major piece of that puzzle.
