Manchester City will look to sign a Premier League star who previously confessed to supporting Manchester United, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

United’s city rivals will look to replace the outgoing Kevin De Bruyne, who confirmed in April that he would leave the club upon the expiration of his contract in the summer.

Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz and Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala have been linked in the past, but both moves would require significant expenditure.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City will look at a different option this summer.

The Italian transfer guru reported that Morgan Gibbs-White is a priority target for Pep Guardiola, with City planning to advance in negotiations with Nottingham Forest.

No issues are expected when it comes to personal terms with the player, but Forest will not be keen to let their star midfielder go.

The 25-year-old has excelled for Forest this season, and should a move materialise, it would provide an interesting narrative for the England international.

Manchester City are expected to be very active in the summer transfer window as they look to challenge the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal for the English Premier League title.

Nottingham Forest have relied the likes of Gibbs-White to challenge for a spot in the UEFA Champions League.

But the Midlands side have tailed off at just the wrong time and are now looking like they may need to settle for a spot in the UEFA Europa League.

That could open the door to the club having to sell one of their prized assets in the transfer window.

Morgan Gibbs-White told Sky Sports last year that he is in fact a Manchester United fan.

When asked about his first football kit, he said: ”It was the first AIG Manchester United kit and I had Cristiano Ronaldo on the back.

“United fan since I can remember, my dad supported them, my grandad supported them.”

The Englishman also confirmed that Paul Scholes was one of his favourite players.
