Manchester United’s city rivals, Manchester City, will look to sign a player targeted by the Red Devils, according to reports from Italy.
City, like United, have suffered from injury issues this season.
Balon D’Or-winning midfielder Rodri has been missing since September, after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament.
Erling Haaland has also been missing for periods of the season through injury, with the striker nursing an ankle injury.
Pep Guardiola’s team had won the last four Premier League titles, but this season has seen them fall to fourth, with Liverpool set to win the title.
Manchester United have endured a disastrous season, currently sitting 14th in the Premier League, with only 39 points on the board.
Both clubs are expected to enter the transfer window in a big way, with significant expenditure required to ensure next season brings greater triumphs.
And Manchester City have registered their interest in a United target, according to TuttoAtalanta.
Brazilian Ederson has lit up Serie A this season, proving himself a force in the midfield for Atalanta.
His availability may be his most appealing characteristic to interested suitors, with the 25-year-old missing just one league game for the Italian giants this season.
A box-to-box midfielder, Ederson brings huge energy in the middle of the park.
Manchester United have been linked, but TuttoAtalanta reports that the Brazilian has attracted the attention of Pep Guardiola’s team.
Atalanta are not keen to let the player go, however, but would be ready to let Ederson go for a fee of around £43m.
The report states that Serie A giants Juventus have also registered their interest, but that Manchester City are in pole position for the player’s signature currently.
With the transfer window now rapidly approaching, United will have to play their hand sooner rather than later for a chance to sign Ederson.
