Ruben Amorim is not taking any chances ahead of the new campaign.

Manchester United have already trimmed parts of their squad, but the emphasis has now turned to strengthening key areas before the new season kicks off.

The club’s pre-season is underway, and the need for depth and stability, particularly in goal, remains a clear priority.

Andre Onana is expected to return to full training shortly, but questions around his consistency and backup support have not faded.

United had previously been linked with high-profile names like Emiliano Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma, but both options appear either financially unfeasible or out of reach at this stage of the window.

The club has now made contact with the representatives of Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega to explore the possibility of bringing the experienced shot-stopper to Old Trafford, as per FootballTransfers.

Stefan Ortega, who featured 21 times for City last season, is reportedly open to the idea of switching sides in Manchester following the arrival of James Trafford at the Etihad.

With only a year left on his contract, City risk losing the German goalkeeper for nothing if they don’t offload him now – a scenario United are looking to take advantage of.

No official offer has been submitted yet, but FootballTransfers claims United have asked about Ortega’s availability, his current contract situation, and his openness to the move.

Should the deal materialise, it would mark a rare and significant piece of business between the two Manchester clubs.

Ortega, previously at Arminia Bielefeld, has proven himself more than capable when called upon, and his current Estimated Transfer Value is just €6.1 million – making him a financially sensible target.

Despite past links to Aston Villa’s Martinez and PSG’s Donnarumma, both goalkeepers are seen as either too costly or complicated to pursue this late in the window.

Ortega, in contrast, ticks the boxes for Amorim: experienced, proven, and affordable.

With time running out before the Premier League returns, United’s approach for Ortega could soon develop into one of the most surprising moves of the summer.
