Liverpool are now looking to threaten Manchester United’s chances at signing one of their top targets as Arne Slot looks for a replacement for Darwin Nunez.

Whilst Liverpool are currently sat at the top of the Premier League and Champions League tables, Slot is not happy with Nunez’s current form.

CaughtOffside has reported that Slot has met with his striker several times now, expressing clearly his concerns.

The Dutchman is unhappy with Nunez’s lack of consistency and contributions this season.

With only four goals and three assists in 24 matches, Nunez is significantly off the pace of the club’s top scorers, with Mo Salah on 21 goals with 17 assists, Cody Gakpo with 12 goals and four assists, and Luis Diaz with 12 goals and three assists.

Whilst it’s understood that Nunez has indicated his commitment to putting in the work to up his game, Liverpool are working proactively to find a potential replacement.

However, their search could spell bad news for Manchester United.

Liverpool join the race for Victor Osimhen

Liverpool are now turning their attention to United target Victor Osimhen who has been lighting up the Turkish Super League while on loan with Galatasaray.

With 13 goals and five assists in 16 games, his stats vastly outweigh Nunez, making him a significant upgrade for Slot’s side.

However, United have reportedly been looking to the Nigerian striker as part of a player-swap deal to offload Marcus Rashford.

Unfortunately, this deal appears to be looking less likely, with the odds more so in Liverpool’s favour.

Rashford’s agent is currently in Italy meeting with AC Milan to discuss a potential move, in turn ruling him out of a potential swap deal.

Victor Osimhen also has a £62 million release clause in his loan deal which would need to be paid to trigger his return to Napoli before a sale can take place, with United currently being without funds.

Also, United’s poor position in the Premier League is significantly less attractive to the Europa League star over Liverpool who are in line for Champions League football next season.

With over three weeks still to go in the transfer season, no firm offers have been made for Osimhen as of yet from either of the Premier League sides, however, United will need to make sales quickly if they don’t want to miss out on one of their key targets.
