Andre Onana has been one of Manchester United’s most disappointing performers this season, with a series of costly mistakes undermining the team’s defensive work.
His inconsistent form led to a major decision from head coach Ruben Amorim, who dropped the Cameroonian for United’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle in April.
Onana has failed to deliver the assurance needed in goal for a top-level side.

As a result, the club are expected to prioritise the goalkeeping position in the upcoming transfer window.
The current situation is viewed as unsustainable heading into next season.
United simply cannot afford to go another year with an error-prone No. 1 undermining their ambitions across multiple competitions.
Altay Bayindir was given a chance to impress in the recent 2-0 defeat to West Ham.
However, the Turkish international also failed to convince.
Red Devils interested in Lille’s Lucas Chevalier
Now, attention has turned toward one of Europe’s top emerging keepers, with Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness) reporting that United are targeting LOSC Lille’s Lucas Chevalier.
The 23-year-old has earned a growing reputation for his lightning-fast reflexes, composure under pressure, and commanding presence in goal.
Chevalier has been tipped by some to succeed Mike Maignan as France’s future No. 1 and is firmly on the radar of top European clubs.
While Paris Saint-Germain were previously interested, their stance has reportedly cooled due to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s strong form in the Champions League.
Manchester United, however, are considering a summer move and may be encouraged by recent comments made by Chevalier himself.

Speaking at the UNFP award ceremony, he admitted: “The Premier League? It’s a league that makes you dream, the most attractive.
“When you see Tottenham, Manchester United struggling with crazy players, you can see the level a bit.
“I have a two-year contract, and you know the president [laughs].
“I haven’t had any specific offers from this country, but it makes you think.”
With Onana also attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, there could be further movement in United’s goalkeeping department.
Chevalier represents a highly promising long-term option.
One that could finally bring stability to a position that has caused far too many problems this season.
Supporters will be eager to see a more reliable presence between the posts as Amorim shapes his squad for next year’s campaign.
