Several former Manchester United players have gone on to rebuild and even elevate their careers away from Old Trafford in recent times.

Scott McTominay is a prime example, thriving in Serie A with Napoli and quickly becoming a fan favourite in Italy.

Marcus Rashford also enjoyed a relatively successful loan stint at Aston Villa.

The Englishman found his spark again, helping the Villans in their European push.

Even Antony, out of favour and form at United, found his joy again during a productive loan spell at Real Betis.

The Brazilian quickly got back to showing flashes of the promise United once paid big for.

But not every player finds the same resurgence.

According to Molineux.news, Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is expected to leave the club this summer.

Leeds United are among the sides linked with a potential move.

Johnstone joined Wolves from Crystal Palace last year in a £10 million deal.

However, despite the fee, he struggled to cement his place as first-choice.

Jose Sa remained ahead in the pecking order, and Johnstone managed just three FA Cup appearances before dropping out of the squad entirely for much of the season.

While Sunderland were previously tipped as a destination, they are now in talks with OGC Nice over a deal for Marcin Bulka.

All but pushing them into unlikely contenders for Johnstone’s signature.

Leeds, however, are reportedly in the market for a new number one to improve on Illan Meslier.

Johnstone, who wants to start regularly, could emerge as a serious option.

Even if Jose Sa departs Wolves this summer, the club are expected to pursue a new keeper rather than hand the gloves to Johnstone.

Thus, making an exit likely.

Johnstone was part of United’s U23’s, back in 2016/17 where he made five appearances.

He featured in the ‘Premier League 2’ competition, before moving to Crystal Palace’s academy.
