Manchester United are continuing their efforts to rejuvenate their attack as they close in on their second major signing of the summer.

United are close to signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, with an agreement now in place between both clubs and the player.

Mbeumo’s move to Old Trafford follows that of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, marking a huge shift for two of the three roles in the attacking trio.

The pair of attackers are looking set to sit behind the solo striker, grabbing goals and offering support to the front man.

In a recent interview, Laurie Whitwell explained that he believes that United have prioritised the signing of the pair as a way of pitching the project to potential strikers looking to move to Old Trafford.

Whitwell explained that signing the pair brings confidence in the goalscoring potential of the side, which could give them more leverage.

Having a pair of capable attackers behind the striker shows the potential striker that he’d have support on the pitch rather than carrying the goalscoring burden alone.

The Athletic journalist went on to say that the Red Devils are certainly interested in signing a striker, with Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike still firmly on their shortlist.

With Mbeumo’s signing set to come through shortly, it could be that this unlocks Manchester United to push for a new striker.

However, with United’s current financial pressures, it could well be that the club needs to make some sales before a deal for a new striker can be confirmed.

With players like Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho all set to be sold this summer, if suitors can be found, United have a real potential to have a complete overhaul of the squad to bounce back under Ruben Amorim.
