It’s recently emerged that Kobbie Mainoo is looking to leave Manchester United as the midfielder has fallen down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim.
The England international has reportedly informed The Red Devils of his wish to leave the club on a loan deal to keep playing first-team football, having been an unused substitute in the Premier League so far.
Mainoo made it clear to United in a meeting on Thursday, 28th August that he has no intention of cutting ties to his boyhood club, having come through the United academy; however he feels a loan move would better suit his development than sitting on the bench.
Another factor for the request is the World Cup next year with Mainoo needing gametime to be in with a chance of making it into Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
It’s understood that a significant number of top teams have been looking to Mainoo from across Europe as an option to strengthen their squad.
However, The Athletic has reported United have rejected the request as they see him as too valuable to lose, wanting him to fight for his place.
Previously, it’s been reported that Mainoo is up against Bruno Fernandes for a spot in the squad, with the club captain having dropped back to central midfield following the signing of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to the number 10 roles.
In the opening two fixtures of this season’s Premier League, Fernandes has been partnered with veteran midfielder Casemiro, seeing Mainoo fall back to the role of unused substitute.
It’s recently been reported that Amorim’s decision to demote Mainoo comes form his lack of speed and intensity to get involved in the action, however, with the club clearly valuing the midfielder enough to reject a loan move, he obviously still features in their plans.
