Manchester United’s attacking rebuild under Ruben Amorim is gaining momentum ahead of a crucial summer window.

After another underwhelming domestic campaign, the Red Devils are prioritising reinforcements in the final third of the pitch.

Despite the arrivals of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, United are determined to bolster their frontline options with both short-term impact and long-term potential.

Amorim, who has already pinpointed Wolves talisman Matheus Cunha as a primary target, is keen to act fast, with the club now prepared to activate the Brazilian’s £62.5 million release clause.

Cunha has enjoyed a standout season, notching 16 goals and four assists in 31 appearances, playing a key role in keeping Wolves out of the relegation zone.

Another Premier League star has caught Ruben Amorim’s eye.

Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap has emerged as a surprise yet serious candidate to join the Manchester United project, with Amorim said to be a strong admirer of the 22-year-old’s development this season.

Liam Delap, formerly of Manchester City, has scored 12 goals in the Premier League during his debut top-flight campaign—four more than any current United forward in 2024/25.

Having joined Ipswich for £20 million last summer, his performances in a struggling side have alerted several top clubs including Chelsea and Newcastle.

United, however, are believed to be in the leading pack of the race, especially with Delap possessing a £30 million release clause that becomes active should the Tractor Boys face relegation.

Kieran McKenna, a former United assistant and now Ipswich manager, has praised Delap’s potential but admitted that the youngster could soon be ready for the elite level.

“Can Liam play for the biggest clubs in the country, the biggest clubs in the world? He certainly can.

“I fully believe that,” said Kieran McKenna.

“I don’t know who it would be accepted by, because that’s not by myself or Ipswich,” said McKenna per East Anglian Daily Times.

“Liam’s focus is still here and finishing the season as strong as possible.”

“As I’ve said before, I think there’s certainly a possibility that he’s an Ipswich player next year.

“I don’t think anything’s decided in anyone’s mind.”

“I think he can have an outstanding impact at this level.

“But he’s also very young and he’s playing his first season of Premier League football.

“He’s not played a huge amount of minutes as a leading striker in a team before and he’s still learning and getting better all the time,” Kieran Mckenna went on to say.

“What’s right for Liam? What’s right for Ipswich? All those factors will come into play in the summer and the right decision will be made.

“But he’s happy and he’s developing really well here.

“He has the potential.

“I think he will, in his career, go on to do some really, really good things,” Mckenna concluded.

While Ipswich remain hopeful of keeping him, Delap’s trajectory suggests a move could be imminent—especially if United continue their charm offensive.

Amorim’s plan to secure both an immediate contributor like Cunha and a long-term investment in Delap may prove pivotal in United’s quest to close the gap at the top.
