Manchester United’s summer has been defined by big-name arrivals, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all joining the ranks at Old Trafford.

But despite the excitement surrounding these signings, the club’s hierarchy knows that incomings must be balanced by outgoings.

Funds are needed to offset the heavy investment in Amorim’s new-look attack.

Attention has turned to the so-called “bomb squad” – players deemed surplus to requirements.

Marcus Rashford was among that group but has since secured a loan move to Barcelona, leaving others still seeking exits.

One of them is Antony, whose situation has taken a dramatic turn.

According to GiveMeSport’s report, INEOS have made the unpalatable decision to slash the Brazilian’s asking price from the £82m paid just three years ago to just £30m.

As news circulated in July, Antony’s asking price was set to £50m, but that has now taken a £20m hit.

Decreases that show United are becoming more and more desperate to find a buyer.

The 25-year-old is eager to return to Real Betis, where he impressed on loan under Manuel Pellegrini last season.

But the Spanish side can only afford another temporary deal – a scenario United want to avoid.

Complicating matters further are Antony’s £12m-a-year wages, which have deterred other potential suitors.

The winger’s relationship with the club appears to have hit rock bottom.

It’s been suggested that he could be sidelined entirely if no move is secured before the transfer window closes.

He has even been linked with a reunion with former United boss Erik ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen, who brought him to Manchester from Ajax in 2022.

However no serious progress has been made.

With less than three weeks remaining in the window, Antony’s future remains uncertain.

United’s willingness to take such a heavy financial hit sums up their urgency to find a solution.
