Manchester United are continuing their push to strengthen in midfield this summer, having already reinforced their attacking options in the transfer market.

The club’s recruitment team has shifted its focus towards adding energy and control in the centre of the park, with new arrivals viewed as essential to Ruben Amorim’s tactical plans for the season ahead.

Brighton’s Carlos Baleba has emerged as the primary target, with negotiations currently ongoing as United aim to secure the 21-year-old before the window closes.

Should Baleba arrive, it could lead to an exit for one of the club’s young midfielders.

Particularly Toby Collyer, who needs consistent first-team minutes to further his development.

Collyer, 21, impressed last season after making his debut in the Community Shield against Manchester City and going on to feature 13 times across the campaign.

According to the Daily Mail’s report, Hull City have opened initial talks to sign Collyer on a season-long loan.

The Championship side, who have built a strong reputation for nurturing young talent – having previously developed Fabio Carvalho, Liam Delap, and Tyler Morton – are keen to add the United youngster to their midfield ranks.

Discussions are still at an early stage, with Sheffield Wednesday also interested.

But Collyer is open to a loan switch, knowing that opportunities at Old Trafford could be limited without European football on the schedule.

Jonny Evans, who retired at the end of last season and has since taken on a role overseeing loan moves, is believed to be closely involved in the process.

Collyer himself hinted at a potential departure during United’s pre-season tour of the USA, saying:

“I’ll sit down with the manager and higher-ups and see what’s the best solution.

“The best way for me to develop, whether it’s stay here or go on loan.

“The end goal for me is to play as many minutes as possible here, hopefully starting every week.”
