Harry Maguire’s future at Manchester United has remained quietly uncertain throughout the summer.
Unlike previous windows, there haven’t been a flurry of headlines or transfer sagas surrounding the 32-year-old.
But internally, the question of his long-term place at Old Trafford has lingered – especially with his contract entering its final year.
Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival last season, however, Maguire has found renewed confidence within the manager’s 3-4-3 system.
Operating in a back three has offered the England international more defensive protection.
Thus, helping him rediscover form and reclaim a consistent role.
Now, as per the Daily Mail’s report, Manchester United have rejected five separate approaches for Maguire – three from the Premier League and two from Italy.
Each enquiry was rejected, without any real hesitation.
Maguire’s current £190,000-a-week deal expires next summer, with clubs from France and Turkey also monitoring the situation ahead of a potential free transfer.
The former captain, who joined from Leicester in 2019 for £80m, is thought to be keen to stay – although his representatives declined to comment.
United expect Maguire to extend his contract and likely finish his career at the club.
No formal talks over a renewal have begun, but United’s stance has been communicated to interested parties.
Maguire’s desire is to emulate the likes of Denis Irwin, Gary Pallister, Steve Bruce and Bryan Robson.
Four big names, all of whom who are viewed as key United stalwarts by the club’s support.
The defender was close to joining West Ham in 2023/24 and lost the captaincy under Erik ten Hag – but his stock has risen again under Amorim.
Maguire was even used up front in emergency situations and famously scored the decisive goal in United’s 5-4 Europa League win over Lyon.
He was handed the armband again in January in Bruno Fernandes’ absence, after the club triggered a one-year extension.
While an agreement over a new long-term deal is still pending, the signs now point towards Maguire remaining a key figure at Manchester United.
