Manchester United’s youth recruitment drive under INEOS shows no signs of slowing down, with the club doubling down on its long-term investment in future stars.

After already sealing the signing of Enzo Kana-Biyik from Le Havre, the Red Devils have continued their push for top academy talent across Europe and the UK.

The strategy — described internally as “low-risk, high-reward” — has been reinforced by new sporting leadership and a sharper focus on youth development.

Director of football Jason Wilcox, who played a key role in Manchester City’s academy success and later worked at Southampton, has been central to this process since his arrival at Old Trafford.

And now, he has turned to a familiar setting to land United’s next top prospect.

Southampton defender Harley Emsden-James, just 16 years old, has signed his contract with Manchester United after nine years on the South Coast.

CentreDevils exclusively reported last month that Emsden-James had entered discussions with Manchester United.

While the deal has yet to be officially announced by the club, the teenager’s emotional farewell on Instagram has all but confirmed the switch.

He wrote: “After nine unforgettable years at Southampton FC, my time with the club has come to an end.

“I’m incredibly grateful for all the memories made and the amazing people I’ve met throughout my journey.

“A huge thank you to all the staff who have supported and guided me over the years, to my teammates who’ve become friends, and to everyone who’s been a part of this chapter with me.

“Southampton will always hold a special place in my heart. Onto the next chapter!”

Harley Emsden-James is expected to join United’s academy set-up, where he will continue his development with a view to eventually breaking into first-team football.

This isn’t the first time United have capitalised on Wilcox’s ties to the Saints — and with Southampton continuing to develop high-level youth talent, it may not be the last.

Under INEOS’ watch, United are clearly building from the ground up, ensuring that the club’s future is well-stocked with technically gifted, hungry young players like Emsden-James.
