Manchester United have made good progress in their preparation for the 2025-26 season where they will take part in the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

So far this summer, the Red Devils have signed forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves for a fee of £62.5 million.

Ruben Amorim’s side have also signed Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik who will be names to look out for in the future.

Furthermore, Brentford player Bryan Mbeumo looks to be on his way to Old Trafford after signing his contract, completing his medical and undertaking media duties today ahead of his official unveiling next week.

All of these specialise in differing areas of the field showing United’s intention to strengthen in all areas of the pitch ahead of the upcoming campaign.

But, one area Manchester United haven’t recruited in yet is in the goalkeeper position.

In the summer transfer window, Ruben Amorim’s side have been reported to have looked at a number of goalkeepers.

One of these is current Aston Villa number one Emiliano Martinez who was formally contacted by Manchester United last month.

Another goalkeeper that the Red Devils have been linked with is current Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

The England international kept 29 clean sheets in the Claret’s EFL Championship promotion-winning campaign and was able to make 88 saves with a save percentage of 84.6%.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Trafford’s former club and Manchester United’s fierce rivals Manchester City were in talks with Burnley about the services of the goalkeeper as they prepare for the potential exits of Ederson and Stefan Ortega.

But, Manchester City wanted to negotiate a lower buyback fee than the £40 million fee currently set.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation.

Speaking on X, Romano revealed that James Trafford is keen on a move to Manchester City if a deal can be reached between the two sides.

He also revealed that City and Burnley are continuing conversations about a lower buy-back fee.

However, this deal is all dependent on the exit of either Ederson or Stefan Ortega.

With this news now revealed, Trafford will have to wait to discover his future whether that be with Burnley or with Manchester City.
