Manchester United’s summer rebuild under Ruben Amorim has accelerated in recent weeks, but one position remains glaringly unresolved — the goalkeeper spot.
Despite strengthening the attack with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, and actively pursuing Benjamin Sesko to lead the line, United have yet to address growing uncertainty around Andre Onana’s future.
Amorim is understood to be open to changes between the sticks, especially after a turbulent campaign in which Onana struggled for consistency and confidence.
A new No.1 has not yet arrived at Old Trafford, but discussions behind the scenes have been intensifying – particularly around a potential long-term successor.
Earlier today, news circulated that Donnarumma has become a serious candidate, with United weighing up a move following PSG’s push to sign Lille’s Lucas Chevalier.
According to respected PSG journalist Marc Mechenoua on X, United have now made an official enquiry into Donnarumma’s situation in Paris.
However, Mechenoua adds that “unless there is a significant clear-out,” the Red Devils are unlikely to pursue the matter further – suggesting the deal is conditional on player exits.
Chelsea are also said to have made contact regarding the 26-year-old’s availability, showing the level of interest in the Italian international.
Donnarumma, who has just one year left on his PSG deal, would bring elite-level pedigree to United’s back line.
However, the move hinges on United offloading at least one senior goalkeeper – along with sales of other senior players.
If that happens, Amorim could sanction what would be a huge statement signing to solidify United’s goalkeeping ranks ahead of the new season.
Manchester United a pris des renseignements sur la situation de Gianluigi Donnarumma auprès du PSG. Mais à moins d’un grand dégraissage les Red Devils ne devraient pas donner de suite à ce dossier. Chelsea est également venu aux infos. #Mercato
