Victor Osimhen has long been a name on Manchester United’s radar, with the Nigerian striker regularly linked to a big-money move to Old Trafford over the past year.

Seen as one of the most explosive and prolific forwards in Europe, Osimhen’s physicality, speed and goalscoring record made him a dream target for a United side searching for attacking firepower.

Reports of United interest stretched back to his Napoli days, when the club’s recruitment team tracked him extensively – hoping he’d become the new face of their frontline.

But despite the strong interest, a move never materialised, largely due to his massive wages and the financial demands involved in a deal.

As his future remained uncertain in recent months, there was growing intrigue around which club would take the financial leap required to sign the 26-year-old.

That question has now been answered.

Galatasaray have stunned the football world by officially announcing the signing, via the official X account, of Victor Osimhen in a blockbuster €75 million (£65 million) move.

As reported earlier this month by Fabrizio Romano with his trademark “Here we go!”, the Turkish giants will pay €40 million (£35 million) up front, followed by €35 million (£30 million) in 12 months.

A 10% sell-on clause has been included along with performance-based bonuses to round out the final agreement.

In a unique twist, the deal also features an exclusivity clause: Osimhen cannot be sold to any Italian club for the next two years.

It’s a dramatic shift for a player once tipped for a Premier League move, and one United fans had hoped might headline their rebuild under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils earlier this month saw a proposal rejected from the Nigerian, which didn’t come as much surprise to fans.

Instead, United have prioritised sustainability and long-term value in the market.

Decisions made firmer following their Europa League final defeat to Spurs, which confirmed the absence of Champions League football next season.

Though missing out on Osimhen will sting, especially given past admiration, the club’s resolve in not overextending financially shows a new strategic clarity in how United intend to rebuild.

Hence the pursuit of Liam Delap, who was available for just £30m – although Chelsea won the race.
