League Two side Fleetwood Town are fighting their way up the league table, trying to gain promotion back to League One after their relegation just over a year ago, now signing a Manchester United striker to help with the task.
before dropping to the fourth-tier of English football, Fleetwood held their spot in League One for ten years, with finishing places ranging from fourth to 22nd in the 2023/24 season when they found themselves relegated.
Last season, the club failed to bounce back up, coming 14th overall, however are aiming to fight back this season, currently sitting in 9th place after six games, so fare winning three, drawing two and having their only loss as a 4-1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra.
Now, in a bid to help strengthen their attack, Fleetwood Town have officially signed Ethan Ennis, as announced by Manchester United on their official X page.
Fleetwood have unveiled their new signing on their own official website too, announcing: “Fleetwood Town Football Club are delighted to announce the loan signing of highly-rated forward Ethan Ennis from Premier League side, Manchester United.
“The 20-year-old has signed a loan deal that will keep him at the Club until the end of the 2025/26 season.”
The League Two side also added a potential debut for the young striker, saying: “The Runcorn-born will be eligible for Town’s next match against Accrington in the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday night, and will wear the number 16 shirt for the 2025/26 season.”
Ennis will be hoping to get much needed match experience whilst with Fleetwood to support his development before returning to Old Trafford.
Whilst Ennis is yet to make his professional debut for Manchester United, the attacker has made 21 appearances with nine goals and two assists for the reserve side.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season with League Two side Doncaster Rovers, making 17 appearances and grabbing two assists, giving him some experience of the challenge at hand at Fleetwood.
