Manchester United’s summer window has picked up pace over the last few days after the acquisition of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, as the club continues its efforts to balance long-term squad building with immediate reinforcements.

Following the arrivals of key talents and the outgoings of several fringe players, United are now looking to secure one of Africa’s most promising attacking stars.

With pre-season matches in full swing and several youth players already making an impression, the club’s focus has expanded to identifying the next breakout name before rival clubs can act.

The scouting department has widened its reach this summer, particularly across Europe and West Africa.

And now, Manchester United have joined the race for a rising striker who is already drawing comparisons to top forwards who’ve previously made waves in the Premier League.

According to L’Equipe, centre-forward Idrissa Gueye, just 18, is on the radar of Old Trafford officials after a standout season in Ligue 2 with FC Metz, where he netted five goals in 17 matches despite limited minutes.

The imposing 1.85-metre attacker only joined Metz from Generation Foot recently but could be on the move again, with United believed to be one of the top clubs monitoring his situation.

Reports indicate that the French side are demanding a fee close to €20 million (£17 million) , though they’re currently engaged in talks with interested clubs around a reduced valuation of €15 million (£13 million) .

Idrissa Gueye, who has a contract until 2029, is considered one of Metz’s most valuable assets this summer, especially after they already sanctioned the sale of Matthieu Udol to Lens.

While several English sides such as Southampton and West Ham are interested in acquiring the young striker, it’s Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund who are believed to be in advanced discussions with the player’s entourage.

Gueye made his international debut for Senegal at just 16, and scouts believe he has the physicality and composure to thrive in the Premier League with the right guidance.

Currently in Belgium preparing for the new season with his teammates, Gueye’s future is expected to be decided in the coming weeks as Metz look to cash in.

United’s interest reflects the club’s ongoing strategy to invest in elite youth talent before they explode on the global stage.
