Manchester United have spent the summer transfer window so far targeting players who can improve the quality and depth of the United squad.

These signings are aimed at making the Red Devils a force in the Premier League, EFL Cup and FA Cup next season as United aim to perform well enough to qualify for European competitions for the 2026-27 season.

One of the key focuses in the recruitment of Manchester United so far has been in the striker market with the club signing former Wolves striker Matheus Cunha whilst also targeting Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen.

These targets all hold different qualities but each hold the quality needed to improve Manchester United’s striker base.

Romano Provides An Update

Now, it has been revealed by Fabrizio Romano that United have been in conversation with all parties involving a potential Viktor Gyokeres transfer this week.

This was done to gain a better understanding of the situation and to establish a full picture of the situation. United are also reported to be in the race for Gyokeres and are informed about every development relating to the deal.

Gyokeres’ Season and Career

Gyokeres has been a lethal force in Europe this season both in a league context and a European competition context with the striker scoring 45 goals across the Liga Portugal and Champions League campaigns combined.

At 27, Gyokeres is also in the prime of his career and has been on a unique journey with his last club being current EFL Championship side Coventry City where he excelled for the Sky Blues during the 2022-23 campaign before his move to the Portuguese champions.

Other Clubs In Contention

There are several clubs interested in the striker this summer including English champions Liverpool and Arsenal.

This makes the battle for the 27 year old even more difficult although with the links between United and Sporting in the past combined with Amorim’s connection, the Red Devils will aim to get this deal done in the near future.
