Manchester United have started their summer window with purpose following the official arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

The Brazil international becomes the first signing under Ruben Amorim, with the club prioritising a sharper, more clinical attack.

United are preparing for a major attacking reshuffle, with the futures of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony all unresolved.

With no European football next season, Amorim’s side must rely on sales to raise funds for incoming targets.

Now, the Red Devils are facing an anxious wait over a potential £5million windfall tied to Jadon Sancho’s future.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea must make a final decision on Jadon Sancho this week, with the Stamford Bridge club still in talks over personal terms with the 25-year-old winger.

Sancho, who spent last season on loan at Chelsea, registered 15 goal contributions across 42 matches, including a memorable strike in their UEFA Conference League final victory last Wednesday.

Despite his revival under the Blues’ setup, no agreement has yet been reached on the player’s salary for a permanent switch, although Chelsea are obligated to buy him for £25million if terms can be agreed.

Should the move be finalised, Manchester United will receive £5million in compensation — a small but useful sum in a summer where every penny counts for a squad rebuild.

Sancho’s initial return to Borussia Dortmund in January 2024 offered hope of a permanent exit, but the German side opted against a full transfer, leaving United to offload the winger to Chelsea on loan.

While his improved form at Stamford Bridge has reignited some of the talent he showed at Dortmund, Chelsea’s new manager Enzo Maresca must now weigh the value of keeping him amid a broader squad overhaul.

United remain hopeful the deal will go through, as Ruben Amorim plans to refresh his front line with hungrier, more consistent wide options.

If Sancho does return, United will likely seek to move him on permanently — but a stay at Old Trafford is considered unlikely by insiders.

A decision is imminent, and it could bring an end to Sancho’s frustrating Manchester United spell once and for all.
