Alejandro Garnacho and Manchester United have now officially parted ways as The Red Devils have offloaded their academy graduate to Premier League rivals, Chelsea.
The Argentina international has been keen on a move to Stamford Bridge since his public fallout with Ruben Amorim after the Europa League final, with his inclusion in the “bomb squad” cementing his imminent departure this summer.
Garnacho was reportedly so certain he’d be joining Chelsea by the end of deadline day that he told his friends the move was coming, turning down other interest
United and Chelsea agreed the £40 million move, including a 10% sell-on clause, making him the most expensive United academy graduate sale ever, ranking fourth in largest-ever United sales.
However, his departure could have looked different, with the winger routinely lined with potential swap-deals.
Back in the winter window, Alejandro Garnacho was included in talks that would have seen Christopher Nkunku go the other way to Old Trafford, with the potential of the swap re-emerging at the start of the summer.
Obviously the swap never took place, however Fabrizio Romano has now reported that another swap-deal with Chelsea was also on the cards.
According Romano, United and Chelsea held talks over the potential of The Red Devils signing Tyrique George in place of selling Garnacho.
Taking to his YouTube channel, Romano explained: “I can reveal to you that Tyrique George was at some point also an option to be included in the conversation between Chelsea and Man United for Alejandro Garnacho.”
He continued: “It was the end of June when Tyrique George was one of the names discussed between Man United and Chelsea.”
Similarly to the talks over Nkunku, nothing materialised, with a £22 million move for George to join Fulham also falling through, seeing him remain at Stamford Bridge.
