Manchester United are planning their summer rebuild with a clear priority on rebuilding their attack.
This season has been absolutely dismal for the United strikers, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee scoring a combined 16 goals and seven assists all season.
Unsurprisingly with these stats, Hojlund has ranked dead last in the ranks for goals and assists by Premier League strikers and expected goals and assists for Premier League strikers.
Sadly for Ruben Amorim, Joshua Zirkzee didn’t fair much better in the rankings.
As such, it’s clear that Amorim’s side is in desperate need of a new strike force, with two key men on their list.
The Red Devils are closing in on their first major signing with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ striker Matheus Cunha on the verge of a move to Old Trafford.
Alongside him as a key target is Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. However, with Delap wanting European football next season, some alternatives have been considered.

Bryan Mbeumo seen as alternative to Liam Delap

It’s been reported recently that Manchester United have highlighted Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo as a potential option if they fail to land Delap in the summer.
With 18 goals and seven assists in 35 games, Mbeumo has surpassed United’s strikers’ combined contributions, marking a clear upgrade for The Red Devils.
However, writing for Give Me Sport, Fabrizio Romano has given a big update on the situation.
Shutting down the situation, Romano commented: “As far as I know, the main target remains Cunha. For Mbeumo there will be many clubs involved, so it’s an open race.”
With Romano being one of the leading voices on transfer news, it’s fair to say that this is a really strong statement, contradicting the recent reports.
As such, we may not see Mbeumo move to Old Trafford this summer, partnering Cunha in a formidable strike force, but we can still dream.
