After joining Bayer Leverkusen in May, Erik ten Hag is preparing for his first full Bundesliga campaign, aiming to reignite his reputation at the elite level.
The former Manchester United boss is overseeing a mini-rebuild in Germany as he looks to stamp his identity on a squad that already boasts Bundesliga and European pedigree.
And the timing of his rebuild aligns closely with United’s need to offload players.
Ruben Amorim is known to be keen to trim the squad and free up funds for further additions.
United are open to several major departures this summer.
Especially in attack, where reinforcements have already arrived and more are expected.
Now, one of Ten Hag’s former favourites has become the subject of growing interest from Leverkusen.
According to CaughtOffside’s report, Rasmus Hojlund is wanted by Ten Hag at his new club, with the Dutchman pushing hard for a reunion in Germany.
The 22-year-old striker is at the centre of a continental transfer battle, having attracted interest from AC Milan, Inter, Juventus, Napoli.
As well as a host of Bundesliga clubs including Dortmund and recent moves from Leipzig.
United are open to parting with Hojlund after an underwhelming season where he scored just 10 goals, but they insist on a permanent sale.
The club rejected Inter’s proposal for a two-year loan with a 2026 purchase option.
Hojlund has recently rejected the opportunity to listen to offers from potential suitors.
The Dane remains intent on proving his worth at United.
Leverkusen though, are now firmly in the race, with Ten Hag seeing him as a key part of his long-term attacking vision.
Despite his desire to stay at Old Trafford, it is known that Amorim is on the lookout for a polished, proven striker.
Thus, making a summer exit becoming increasingly likely – maybe a January exit.
