Manchester United’s search for a new striker this summer was anything but straightforward.

The club saw pursuits of Liam Delap and Viktor Gyokeres fall short, with both targets moving elsewhere despite strong early interest.

That left the Red Devils scouring the market for alternatives before they eventually struck a deal with RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenian striker was officially unveiled to supporters yesterday, stepping out onto the Old Trafford pitch to loud applause and chants from the Stretford End.

Now, attention has turned to another name once linked with a move to United – former Everton frontman Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

According to The Sun’s report, the 28-year-old England international has sacked his agent and will handle transfer talks himself as he searches for a new club.

United are among the destinations he hopes to secure.

Calvert-Lewin left Everton at the end of the 2024/25 campaign after scoring just three league goals in 26 appearances.

Although his earlier career form had previously attracted interest from the Premier League’s elite.

At his peak, United were reportedly willing to pay around £50m for his services.

However with Sesko now signed – alongside Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund – the striker position at Old Trafford is fully stocked.

Any move for the free agent would likely depend on a departure, with Hojlund tipped as the most probable exit amid interest from AC Milan.

News circulated in July however, that the Red Devils opted against the idea of signing Calvert-Lewin.

The idea of signing an injury prone player sitting on hefty wages is a scenario INEOS will always be looking to avoid.

Other clubs are also circling, including Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and even Sunderland, as Calvert-Lewin weighs his options for a Premier League stay.

But for now, Calvert-Lewin to United remains nothing more than a possibility.
