Manchester United have been involved in many signings of former Ajax players of late and have gone so far as to employ an ex-Ajax manager before Ruben Amorim in Erik ten Hag.
Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Antony and Andre Onana are all players who have either been signed by the Red Devils recently or are still residing at the club.
From a transfer perspective, it’s clear that United haven’t hesitated to buy talent from the club, even though there was some haggling over Antony’s transfer fee from Ajax’s side.
It’s plausible that United may go back to Amsterdam to poach another talent soon. According to a report in SportsMole, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his men have reportedly been informed that an offer in the region of €30m would likely be accepted for young centre-back Jorthy Mokio.
Whilst Mokio has only made four appearances this season in the league, he made 18 appearances in total last season as Ajax collapsed in their pursuit of the Eredivise, though the player did score twice.
As usual with such a highly touted player, United are not the only elite club interested with Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and Real Madrid all interested.
Despite this, it is thought United are in a strong position when it comes to a move for the player with the Red Devils previously signing young talent like Ayden Heaven and Diego Leon.
A report in CaughtOffside mentions that Ajax aren’t looking to sell the player who is under contract till June 2027 but Ajax may seriously consider an offer of €30m.
The Belgian’s ability to play in a system of three defenders is said to be crucial to United’s interest with United currently sticking with a 3-4-3 system with no signs of change.
It appears as though despite the shaky start to the season, INEOS are all in on Amorim and his system, meaning transfers will only arrive if they feel as though they’ll fit into Amorim’s team.
Though it is a one dimensional way of buying, it appears INEOS and Amorim will stick to the plan for better or worse which is why the club are interested in the young centre-back.
