Manchester United’s summer transfer plans are already in full swing, with several players set to depart, and new faces lined up for key positions.
Amidst this, there have been growing concerns about the future of homegrown talent Kobbie Mainoo, whose contract situation had been causing uncertainty.
With a change in management and reports linking him to a move away from Old Trafford, fans were left wondering whether one of their brightest young stars would stay at the club.
Kobbie Mainoo, who made a significant impact in his breakout season with United, particularly with his winning goal in the FA Cup final against Manchester City and his starring role for England in the 2024 European Championships, was initially placed on the “unsellables” list by the club.
However, as his contract ticks down and with recent injury setbacks, the club has reportedly considered a sale for the right price, with Chelsea showing interest.
Despite this, Mainoo’s preference is said to lie with a move outside of England should he leave.
Transfer expert David Ornstein, in a Q&A session with The Athletic, shared an encouraging update, revealing that there is a “growing sense” at United that Mainoo will remain with the club this summer.

Although Mainoo’s role under manager Rúben Amorim is still being debated, with some pushing for him to feature as a part of the front three after his stunning Europa League goal, the club’s focus is now on resolving his contract situation.
Kobbie Mainoo has two years left on his current deal, and while he’s reportedly seeking a wage in excess of £150,000-a-week, United’s financial constraints have made them hesitant to meet such demands.
However, recent reports suggest that both sides are on the verge of an agreement, with Mainoo willing to compromise.
The 20-year-old is eager to continue developing under Amorim, and it appears that United are set to offer him a new deal in line with their wage structure, aligning his earnings closer to the £100,000-a-week mark recently given to fellow young star Amad.
With both parties willing to find a middle ground, it’s expected that Mainoo will sign a new contract soon, ensuring his future remains at Old Trafford heading into the 2025/26 season.
