David de Gea is arguably a Manchester United legend following his more than 10 year spell at Old Trafford between the years of 2011 and 2023, a spell that saw him make 545 appearances.
But, following his spell with the Red Devils, the Spanish shot stopper took a year out of the game before heading to Italy to join Serie A outfit Fiorentina.
Since joining the Italian side, the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper has made 42 appearances and even kept 11 clean sheets last campaign in the Italian top flight showing his ability to still perform at a very high level.
Recently, de Gea even returned to Old Trafford with Fiorentina to face Manchester United in a pre-season friendly ahead of the 2025-26 season.
However, earlier today, the news that the goalkeeper could be on his way back to the Red Devils was broken with Ruben Amorim’s side said to be making hush-hush checks around the potential of a remarkable return to Old Trafford.
Now, there has been clarification about the potential of David de Gea returning to United.
According to Italian source Gianlucadi Marzio, de Gea wants to continue his spell at the Serie A side and is happy to keep wearing the Fiorentina jersey.

The revealing of this news arguably rules out the potential of the 34-year-old returning to Manchester United.
With this the case, Manchester United may now choose to turn towards some of their other goalkeeper options.
Among the targets named is Senne Lammens who can be said to be a top prospect at just 23 years old.
But, with the news that the goalkeeper position is not a priority position, a move for a goalkeeper may be unlikely as Ruben Amorim aims to strengthen his squad ahead of the summer transfer window deadline.
