Ruben Amorim’s first transfer window in charge of Manchester United is beginning to take shape, and one area he’s eager to address is the goalkeeping department.

The Red Devils have battled inconsistencies between the posts all season, with both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir struggling to command confidence from the backline.

Onana, who arrived with high expectations, has continued to be plagued by costly errors—including his latest in the Europa League draw against Lyon—while Bayindir’s shaky display in the 4-1 thrashing at Newcastle didn’t help his case either.

Amorim, known for his tactical discipline, is now spearheading a push to sign a commanding new goalkeeper who can bring long-term stability.

And now, according to Sport Bild, United have turned their attention to Bundesliga rising star Kaua Santos.

The 22-year-old Brazilian has been sensational for Eintracht Frankfurt in recent weeks, stepping up in place of injured captain Kevin Trapp with a string of commanding displays, including a standout performance in the Europa League quarter-final against Tottenham.

So impressive has Kaua Santos been that insiders believe Trapp may not regain his spot even once fit, with the 1.98m keeper quickly becoming a fan favourite for his infectious energy and spectacular shot-stopping.

United’s interest isn’t new—the club were reportedly tracking Santos as far back as autumn 2024—but this time they’ve stepped things up, with technical director Christopher Vivell personally speaking to Frankfurt’s hierarchy during the recent clash in London.

Christopher Vivell was brought in as Manchester United’s director of professional football, and is known for scouting young talent which he looks set to do for the Red Devils as well.

Tottenham are also circling, but Frankfurt are in no rush to sell.

Santos recently signed a contract extension until 2030, with his wages bumped from €1m to €1.5m, and sporting director Markus Krosche has declared publicly: “We are not selling Kaua in the summer.”

Nevertheless, it’s understood that Frankfurt have internally agreed not to consider any offers under €60 million, aware that Europe’s elite clubs, including Manchester United, are now watching closely.

Santos’ development has drawn comparisons to Manuel Neuer’s early years at Schalke, and those close to the player want him to grow step-by-step—but if United are prepared to pay big, that process may fast-track straight to Old Trafford.
