Manchester United are continuing to remodel their squad under Ruben Amorim, with a massive change of the squad’s make up this summer, with old players leaving, and new stars joining, forming a team that fits more to the Portuguese manager’s playstyle.
One such departed player is Premier League veteran Christian Eriksen, who’s time at Old Trafford came to an end at the end of his contract after three years with The Red Devils.
Despite having several clubs interested in the playmaker, with Wrexham keen to sign him for their maiden Championship campaign, it’s Bundesliga side Wolfsburg who have come out on top.
On Wolfsburg’s official club website, the German side announced Eriksen’s signing, commenting: “VfL Wolfsburg have signed 33-year-old Denmark international Christian Eriksen, who had been without a club since leaving Manchester United in the summer. The central midfielder has signed a contract until 2027 and will wear the number 24 shirt.”
As the German club signed Denmark’s record appearance holder, Vfl Wolfsburg director Sebastian Schindzielorz spoke highly of the former United midfielder, commenting: “We’re really pleased that this opportunity has arisen for us at short notice, in Christian Eriksen, we’re getting a player who has seen and experienced everything at the highest level.”
Schindzielorz went on: “‘His enormous experience, his quality on the pitch and his personality will be a valuable boost to our young players in particular.
“We’ve deliberately made structural changes this summer and signed several talented youngsters with great potential. Christian will complement our experienced captain, Max Arnold, perfectly. He’s a true leader who can make a difference on and off the pitch.”
The former Denmark international is coming to the side with a true wealth of experience, having played in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford as well as United, having won the Serie A with Inter Milan and the Eredivisie three times with Ajax.
