Manchester United’s search for a top striker continues, and the Red Devils are now refocusing their efforts after a setback in their pursuit of one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.

With the summer transfer window fast approaching, United has been linked with a number of options to bolster their attack.

Their attention has shifted toward other potential targets, especially following reports that talks with a star player broke down over wage demands.

The Premier League giants were originally keen on signing Victor Osimhen, who has been sensational in Turkey with Galatasaray.

Despite initial interest, United has now distanced itself from the deal after a significant obstacle emerged.

The club was reportedly willing to meet a £65 million transfer fee for the 26-year-old Nigerian striker, but the issue arose when Osimhen’s representatives demanded a staggering £300,000-a-week wage.

The hefty financial terms proved to be too much for United, who are now prioritizing other striker options for next season.

As a result, Manchester United has shifted their focus to alternative targets, with one name making headlines: Ipswich’s rising star, Liam Delap.

The 20-year-old forward has impressed in the Championship and is now reportedly on United’s radar.

The move away from Victor Osimhen may be seen as a pragmatic decision, as United looks for a more financially viable solution in their search for a clinical goal-scorer.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, who were also linked with Osimhen in the past, are still very much in the hunt for a proven No.9.

Blues legend John Obi Mikel has indicated Osimhen’s preference for Stamford Bridge, which could see a summer move to Chelsea, with the deal potentially being easier to finalize given their prior discussions last summer.

Mikel has told beIN Sports of Osimhen’s supposed preference: “He wants to play for Chelsea.

“I hope [he’ll be playing] somewhere in the Premier League.

“I know where we stopped in terms of the contract, I know where we are.

“It’s an easy fix, because we’ve done all the hard work last summer.

“It’s so easy to just pick it up and then the deal is done.

“This guy does what he does best, scores goals, and that’s what we’ve lacked this season.

“We don’t score enough, and that’s why we’re where we are today. With Osimhen, that’s what he does.”

While Osimhen’s future remains uncertain, Manchester United has made it clear that they will not be pushed into meeting excessive wage demands.

As the transfer window nears, it will be interesting to see who steps forward as United’s key attacking reinforcement.
