Manchester United are still looking to find a new goalkeeper this summer, as Andre Onana’s on borrowed time at Old Trafford.
The Cameroon international has been struggling between the posts for United since arriving two years ago from Inter Milan.
Unfortunately last season was his worst yet, leading the list of Premier League goalkeepers in mistakes made that have directly cost their team a goal.
As such, Ruben Amorim and his coaches are considering a replacement, with their recruitment team scouring Europe for top talent to become the first-choice keeper at Old Trafford.
United have had a long list of names on their goalkeeping shortlist, including Zion Suzuki, James Trafford, John Victor and Mike Maignan.
Lately, the top targets for The Red Devils have been Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez and Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens, with PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma also coming into the fray.
United are reportedly going toe-to-toe with Manchester City for the Italy international who is ready to depart the French capital after new contract negotiations have stalled.
However, with City having recently signed James Trafford, it’s unlikely they’ll continue in the race for Donnarumma.
Now, Corriere dello Sport has reported that in their place, Chelsea are looking to the talented shot-stopper as they prepare for their Champions League campaign next season.
The London-based side already have Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen in their ranks, however are now reportedly looking to the Italian star to strengthen their options.
With the 2025/26 Premier League season soon upon us, both United and Chelsea will be wanting to get their full squad confirmed as soon as possible to get as much training time together before the campaign starts.
United are set to face Arsenal at Old Trafford in their opening game, coming up against new signing Viktor Gyokeres, so are sure to want a reliable and confident goalkeeper behind their squad to start the season strong.
